We also acted as consultants on Zoom in on Camels.

We also project managed English-language versions of several titles for Parragon Books including 1001 Ideas for Living, A Concise Guide to Roses, Cooking for Your Dog, Fighters, Q&A Countries and Continents and its companion volume Q&A Science and Technology.

Following an initial brief from Quercus Editions, CPM commissioned the author for The Gambling Handbook and developed the content, commissioned the text and cover design, and supervised the layouts. We also undertook the picture research and commissioned the illustrations – all of which had to be checked very carefully, especially during the step-by-step descriptions of the rules of each game.

Promotion

Promotional MaterialEast of England 2008 is a commemorative handbook that we managed for the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), a governmental body whose role is to promote the region. This commission was quite different from our usual line of work in that the booklets were not for the trade but promotional and were to be distributed at a reception to celebrate the achievements of the region at the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics Games in Beijing. Branding was therefore at the heart of the design and timing was of the essence as the schedule could under no circumstances slip.

The EEDA provided us with pictures and captions and our brief was to create a 48-page booklet using a selection of these, while making sure that each county of East Anglia was represented equally. We commissioned an external designer to create an attractive layout, liaised with the EEDA to get it approved, copy-edited and proofread the text in-house and provided the printer with print-ready files. We also commissioned the printing, approved the plotters, and organised the delivery of the finished books to the reception venue.

As we were working to such a tight schedule, keeping communication flowing efficiently at every stage was key to the success of this job: from the initial briefing meeting with our customer, we successfully delivered the handbooks to them in just 15 working days.
