Portable, convenient, interactive and flexible, the appeal of ebooks is undeniable.
There is almost no limit to the interactivity that can be added to an ebook, and a book’s content can be enhanced so much that an ebook is virtually indistinguishable from an App. However, unlike a printed book, what your product will look like to your readers is largely dependent on the reading device used and the functionalities it supports. Ebook conversion is therefore much more than a technical process, as it must always be done with your audience and their reading habits in mind.
To be useful and relevant to your readership, the content of the printed book may require in-depth adaptation as navigating ebooks is closer to web surfing than linear book reading. Traditional editors still have an important role to play in determining where and how to depart from the content of the printed book.
